Hi all, just curious to see how popular SxS's are in your state. Here in NoDak, I would say they are at the bottom. Just my opinion, but from seeing folks are various shooting events, hunting grounds etc in my State, I'd rank shotguns this way:
The King, Pump Guns The Queen, Autos The Prince, O/U's The Village Idiot, SxS's
Even in Sporting Goods stores and Gun Shops (big and small) the SxS is just a shadow compared to other actions. Heck, all you can find new are Stoeger Uplanders, CZ Ringnecks and Bobwhites. That's about it. Used, very few American vintage guns and almost no foreign makes. There really is no demand for them. There are a few of us SxS fans, but not many.
So....what's the story in your State?
Best!

In the UK: O/U are far ahead in both use and sales S/S second, in use, though in new gun sales I would think auto possibly higher Auto - third in use, but possibly second in new sales? Pumps are seldom seen in the UK
On the clays ground you will see 90% O/U, about 5% each s/s and auto On the shooting field it can vary a lot between O/U and s/s, but mainly O/U for younger generation, s/s for more traditionalists
Autos used more in wildfowling (lead free shot issues) and pigeon shooting

Greg,
In my part of GA the predominant shotgun action type is the automatic. One a dove shoot here, with twenty guns present, you would see something like ........ seventeen automatics, a couple over/unders, and a pump. If I am there that would likely include a s x s. Duck hunting here, about the same. Quail is different. Pumps are never seen, automatics are in the minority, with over/unders leading the way. More s x s guns will be seen in the quail field than any other type hunting here. I always use a s x s for quail.

Are you kidding? A camouflage 3-1/2" semi auto is practically a requirement around here. My walnut 3" 1100 gets looks of astonishment that change to shock when ducks fall. Lots of O/Us at clay events of course. And way too many black pumps with gizmos on them. A SxS at a dove shoot is a real novelty.

We have a state law in Michigan making it illegal to hunt or shoot grouse with anything but a SxS, as it should be. One can still use an O/U, semi auto, or pump for waterfowl, pheasants, woodcock, etc.

What Greg said is largely true up here. Walk into a gun shop, ask if they have any doubles, and people look at you like you have leprosy.
Pheasant hunting at my place is a different story. Double barrels out number trombone pumps and crunchenticker autos every time. If someone comes to hunt with a pump or auto on my place they better be a damn good friend.

I live in rural MN and every Thursday a little sportsmans club by us shoots trap - cost $4 per round. After about 9 or 10 squads they play a hunt and cover winner takes 1/2 the pot game. Most of the guns I see are consistent with income. Beat up pumps guns one or two still have poly chokes, cheap O/U like Stoeger, some A'5s, two Beretta U/O and two Benellis. When I bring a SxS it always generates a lot of interest. If I shoot BP it really geeks everybody out.

My best hunting ground for finding vintage SXS's was northeastern Illinois. However, I was the only guy at my club shooting one. That said, several suburban clubs had annual SXS shoots and I made some good friends with fellow SXS aficionados that I met at these shoots. In my recent travels I've found some SXS interest in Texas, not much in Arizona, California who knows? I just arrived in Oregon so I don't know what interest SXS's hold for shooters here. Steve
