Gentlemen ,do we have any Ithaca Collectors that could help me out ,I have a 1905 Ithaca Grade 2 , I suppose this would be considered a " Lewis Ithaca " the gun is in wonderful condition ,retains alot of Case Colors ,and the wood is excellent ,Bluing appears fine and original also as none of the letters are smeared but very crisp , on the Right Barrel it is stamped ,Pigeon Gun and on the left barrel it is stamped ,Krupp Steel ! I am wondering if these " Pigeon Guns " are valued in line with the standard Grade 2 Guns or if they would be some what collectible? I can not find out much more about this than what I have already posted ! Does any one have any idea of how many of these were manufactured ? What I think I know is these guns being manufactured about te time Damascus was falling out of vogue the decision was made to order these barrels from Germany and fit them to the Grade 2 guns ,you collectors please correct me if I am wrong but with that said ,I would assume they wouldn't have imported these barrels long as it probably would have been cost prohibitive ! Thank You for any information you can give on this matter ! OOhay

pigeon gun stamp suggests this gun was made without a safety. is that the case? if so, it is quite rare. ithaca, fox and others imported and used krupp barrels for about 20 years before ww1. krupp steel is still considered to be the finest by many...
keep it simple and keep it safe...

Walt should come along shortly. He will have all the answers. Very few guns were marked "Pigeon Gun" but I don't know if that in itself brings the value up. It will depend a lot on features and as always condition.

Up through early 1915, the regular No. 2 with Damascus barrels was a $60 list price gun, while the No. 2 Krupp Pigeon was a $70 list price gun. Essentially a $10 premium for Krupp barrels over the "standard" Damascus barrels. Ejectors were $10 extra on either. Later in 1915, Ithaca Gun Co. began offering Krupp barrels at the same price as Damascus barrels on the No. 1 1/2, $50 list price gun, when it got the bold floral engraving and very soon the No. 2 Krupp Pigeon was gone from the Ithaca listings.

Thank You for more information Researcher ! My gun is serialed to 1905 so we know the " Pigeon Stamp " lasted for some 10 years or so ,wonder how many were actually sold . The Wood on mine has nice figure ,not over the top but much better than a Field Grade gun also has what appears to me standard #2 Checkering and is finished with a White Line Pad that is in wonderful visual condition but is as hard as a rock and according to the Older Gentleman I purchased the gun from this Pad has been on there since he can remember carrying this gun when he was a boy ,this was His GrandFathers Gun, you fellows familiar with Ithaca's ,do you suppose this would be original as it sure isn't new !

The "Whiteline" pad was introduced by Fray-Mershon just a few years before WW-II, and by about 1950 became Pachmayr. The only pad that would be period correct for the gun would be an S.W. Silvers.
Several of the U.S. manufacturers used Krupp barrels through the transitional era as composite iron and steel barrels were phased out. The A.H. Fox Gun Co. used them exclusively until they began getting lower priced tubes from other sources which allowed them to introduce their Sterlingworth in 1910. Krupp barrels are found on many U.S. manufactured doubles -- Ithacas, both Lefevers, Bakers, Tobins, Torkelsons, a few L.C. Smiths, and even a very few very late Remington doubles were fitted with Krupp barrels. After The Great War the name Krupp was a bit distasteful in the U.S. and our manufacturers went to using other names on their compressed fluid steel barrels.

As Researcher said Ithaca carried the No. 2 Pigeon gun in their catalog until about 1915, however I have never come across a Minier or a Flues that was marked Pigeon Gun on the barrel...only the Lewis model, and not very many of those. The few that I have seen were all in the 73759 range. The Lewis guns that I have encountered had butt plates. I would think that a collector would pay a bit more for the Lewis No. 2 that was marked Pigeon...I know that I did. I would be interested in knowing the serial number of your gun or at least if it is close to the aforementioned range.
