Interesting. I saw things happen to guns during the flurry at the former UP SxS Classic, where you got 76 targets in 2 1/2 minutes (although getting off 60+ shots if using just one gun--you could use 2 or even 3, and loaders--was not all that common). But I never saw, nor remember hearing, about ribs detaching. This was a summer shoot, and barrels got hot enough that some guys shot with welding gloves on their forward hand.

I'd imagine old Lord Rippon's Purdey guns got pretty hot too, but he prolly got his ribs fixed for free, lol

Shooting a pair (or a trio, as Ripon sometimes did) helps a lot as far as getting really hot goes. And also worth remembering that it's seldom 80 degrees F when they're shooting driven birds in the UK. Not even on the Glorious 12th, because that's grouse only, and you have to go quite a ways north for them.

Franc, I had to use a surefire flashlight and a magnifying glass to see the gold stripe along the lines of the ribs. I don't quite know how to get a meaningful picture to post...Geo

George...sorry, I meant Kem to put up some nice show off pics if he bought his Gun.
I have had a couple of Francottes that seemed to show a hair thin line of braizing yellow along the rib/bbl juncture too.
Cheers

Has anyone ever seen a brazed rib come loose? The lower grade, non monoblock Darnes had brazed barrels, and while I recall a few of them in the rack for repair when I was in St. Etienne, I don't believe any had loose ribs.
There was a V grade monoblock gun with a loose rib, but, it was a silver soldered rib. Repair to that gun would have been typical method.
My Uggy has a brazed rib. If it got loose and needed repair, I might throw it away. But, that would be a tougher question on a gun like a Browning sidelock.
Anyone ever seen a loose brazed rib? Are they repaired when that happens?

I had it happen on a Parker Repro. Perhaps a coincidence that I sent it to a well-known gunsmith who specializes in opening chokes, shortly after which I noticed that the ribs were loose at the muzzle. Or perhaps related.

Did you have it repaired, Larry? Could it be soldered at just one end for a quicky job (I doubt it), or, does a guy now have to find a set of tubes for a Parker repro?

Best,
Ted
