Not taking sides. Have enjoyed NIDs in 20 & 12, and Sterlys in 16 & 12 (my current Kansas go to pheasant whacker) Aforementioned cracked Sterly frame BUT WE DON'T KNOW WHY BOTH can crack down the middle of the stock head NID Sterly with holes for staple repair

Made by man, and not God, I'd say. I wouldn't be shooting high pressure boomers in either one of those guns.

Aforementioned cracked Sterly frame BUT WE DON'T KNOW WHY This is the internet, so I can tell you exactly what happened. Somebody put different actions it in a vise and whacked them with an 8 lb sledge hammer. This one was the lone survivor of that test and took an additional 40 whacks with a 12 lb-er. That's as factual as stating it was "blown up." As usual, the burden is on the rest of the world to prove me wrong. As to choosing, simply close your eyes and wrap your hand around the frame of a Fox. Trust me, you won't think you have Rosie O'Donnell by the waist.

Do you shoot all your guns with your hand wrapped around the frame, or just the Foxes?
Best, Ted

Agree. Never seen a striker bound NID, and I'll bet Drew doesn't have any photos of a blown up NID, either. I've never owned any Ithaca doubles, so am not qualified to offer an answer. Wasn't the NID developed, in part, as a result of weakness in earlier flues receivers? The resultant strength of the NID is well documented, I just haven't been able to put my hands on a nice 16 or 20 to see if I like them. Nice thread and looking forward to the next matchup. I agree with above poster's comments regarding the wonderful feel of a small frame Fox double.

[quote=Geo. Newbern]Mr Will, you've thrown a tough choice out there this Friday. I love them both.
I like the Sterlys so much I have one for almost each season. All three are 12ga 1st year pin guns. They are choked ic and mod for opening day doves, mod and mod for late season doves and wood duck holes and full and fuller for open water ducks. One is marked Sterlingworth and the other two Sterlingworth Company with the Philly address. I don't have a Wayne Junction gun.
Not really a NID, but a 20ga Ithaca Lefever A Grade is my go to quail gun, and a 16ga NID "star model" bats cleanup on most everything else.
George; I also have a 20ga lefever A grade....its a nice handling gun that you really don't hear about....now you mention yours and one has just been listed in the For Sale section; all 20ga guns.....guess that's about the TOTAL production run in 20ga....

These gunfights are going to wear people out.
Tough choice here, that's for sure. I might go with the NID 'cause I like its innards and if I was nice about it, someone might let me option up a Miller - excuse me, Ithaca single trigger.

Like last week, I've never owned either, but the NID is more interesting to me. I'd not mind a 16 ga. NID! (or a Fox for that matter...let's get real.)

As they both have the same bolting system. I think it is more the individual configuration of a gun. Go with either with the barrel length and stock dimensions and weight you want. I am familiar with Fox ejectors but not the NID. Can anyone enlighten me. Since the Ithacas may be under appreciated you should be able to get a higher grade Ithaca for the same money. MHO Mark
