I don't think you need to go #5 or 4's to take rabbits, obviously the #7.5 you are buying do the job well enough. #6's are effective all the time when the bunny is hit, at least that has been my experience.
On rabbits, be they clay or furred Robert Churchill(sp?) in his treatise 'Shooting' said that for the best results on hare from a butt during a driven shoot was to place the shot about a foot below the critter, so that the charge was not only distorted & therefore more efficient [wider] but that it also drove any small pebbles into said target. I've found that wonderful advice when applied to both clay 'rabbits' & real ones. It may help your 'aim'/bag a bit on the runners. I know you have some swamp rabbits down there that are simply brown snow shoes. Big hares, those.
