I am looking to get an over and under for trap shooting when tax returns come back. I am setting my limit at $1500. I am looking at SKB (Japanese), Winchester 101 (Japanese), Browning (Superposed and Citori), Miroku, and Weatherby. I figure this gives me a wide field to work. Any ideas as to what you would recommend?

I'd add Remington 3200 to your list. Should be close on price

I would pick up a 3200 as well. In fact I have a bunch of them. For light trap shooting a field gun, M&F , 30" works well. I also have two 30" 3" Mag guns. special trap and regular trap are the same. The special just got better wood. Competition grade had a little engraving and better wood. Most felt the trap guns had better wood than Skeet guns. Just make sure it has been updated, punch mark in serial number and two Allen heads on reciever face. I shot one 250k without the upgrade so the upgrade is not that big of a deal in my experience.

Jon, are you saying in the last sentence above that in your experience the upgrade is not needed? I have a '73 which was the troubled year. I sent it to Laib for upgades and he said it only needed partial not full upgrade. Has that been your experience? Gil

250 k no upgrade. In my case it never mattered. I did have other guns that were upgraded. I think they were playing it safe with the upgrades. Liabs knows 3200 inside and out. Did have him alter several 1 of a 1000 for ends to prevent cracking. All my Remington upgrades were done by the factory. They did it for free for 25 years. No excuse for not doing it for free but some of us just were not bothered by the need or just too lax. I wanted to see how far I could go without it. I stopped counting at 250k when I went to K80s and Kolars. Don't shoot them as well as I did the 3200 but that is more a function of age not the gun.
If Remington made the 3200 with a pound less weight I would sell them all and shoot the lighter guns

My Dad was a Remington Director when the 3200 was introduced. He said the Board was told that the upgrade was done because some meatheads were snap closing the guns and overstressing them.
