Looking for some info on the proof marks on this old F.W Kessler 16 Ga hammer gun.

Wondering about the "Nitro" proof on both sides of the barrel? I thought "N" was the mark for nitro proof, it is also outside the barrel flats.

Is it possible to determine the year of manufacture.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Mirk, Not sure why you are not able to see the pics, I am able to see them. I have added some more pics below, can you see them?

Thanks skeettx for the info, the "Nitro" proof is also there in the link you provided but "N" is missing, so also is the crown B. Is it common to put the marks outside the barrel flats?

Some additional pics....

Don't know about the placement of the "Nitro", but either the word itself or the N were used to indicate nitro proof.

4000 Atm test(4000 Atmosphären-Pulver) - you may be thinking of that.

Post 1912(1911 - Z-M) Eagle Nitro(block) noting tube for shot passing thru Suhl proof facility while the stamp of Eagle Crown over N Nitro(script) notes a tube destined for shot passing thru the Z-M facility. Early on, say 1912 - 1922 typically the postion of the Nitro is on the sides of the tubes. Post circa 1922, you will find them on the lower flats. Pleasure us with some images of the Crown over B(experienced proof in final state) & the other N on the water-table. It surely dates from 1912 - 1922 but I'm fairly confident it was made in 1911-1912.

Kind Regards,

Thanks Raimey for the information, appreciate it.

Here is a picture of the water table but there is no N or crown over B marks.

Does the standing breech wear a FWK monogram? Also can you tell what the monogram or gothic/Fraktur letters are behind the serial number?

Kind Regards,
