Hi All, While enjoying the holiday weekend in New York State, a very thoughtful and beautiful gift was bestowed upon me be a fellow BBS member. Will S. who I met about 3 years ago at a gunshop in NY have enjoyed some nice hunting, shooting and social outings with our friends and family. Will is a fine furnature maker found a 1936 Hunting and Fishing Magazine that reminded him of my GSP and he framed it using wormy chestnut and walnut. It is stunning. I thank him for the gift and friendship. Thanks Will Jeff G.

Only two places to get that chestnut, Jeff. Barn beams and under the veneer in old pianos. From what I've been hearing from him, Will is also in the Charlin fan club which certainly recommends him to me.

Hi Jack,
Yes Will has a thing for the sleek and smooth French ladies. As far as the Chestnut goes Will has a stock of it from many years ago, he has owned saw mills and has stock piled some fine wood for projects. Will also made a natural slab cherry camp bench and a wonderful folding gun rack (kind of like an artist easel design) made of Walnut, tulip and maple. He made it for the trap field but I leave it in the camp living room, just too nice to go outdoors.
How have you been Jack? If you are ever up near NY or are interested in joining us for a weekend let me know probably about as far as Sandanona (maybe a little farther).
Jeff G.

Lovely gift, lucky man.
Are all old pianos chestnut under the veneer?

I doubt it Rob. Sort of like Sycamore in upholstered furniture. Just another core wood. The one I got it out of had suffered from a case of the long-term damp in storage and the veneer was lifting enuf to reveal. Course this stuff wouldn't rot out in a hundred years. We ripped some of it up and ran it thru a thickness planer. Hide glue was real kind to the knives! Think my wife also has a couple of simple picture frames from it at work. Nothing like the moulding profile on Jeff's.
Jeff, I might take you up on that. Course I couldn't hit a grouse if it was sitting in a bucket with the lid on. You and Bill shooting the leftovers at G&H? That I could go for.

Jeff/Will, very nice gift. This board is really something!
What is this G&H leftover stuff? I am going to be in Boston next week and maybe I could hop on a Greyhound, :-)

Here are a couple of more pictures of Will's talent as a furniture maker. The cabinet is one of a pair that is made of chestnut. The Field & Stream was a gift that I will always treasure. Thanks Will, I am looking forward to our next hunting adventure this fall. Bill G.
