Monty, any pics of the action flats? I'm betting there is a 'ABAS' stamp on there.

The gun looks very "midlands'ish". It carries almost identical engraving to a gun currently listed at Hill Rod and Gun.

The HIll Rod and Gun example, the action has pins for the cocking limbs, that's about the only difference.
Obviously a Birmingham sourced gun. Doubt it was AA Brown or W&C Scott or even Wrights. The quality isn't there. I would suspect trade gun/action built in house by either Midland, BSA, etc.

I'll agree there. The quality just isn't there for a AA Brown or W&C Scott. English guns and their 'Internal' trade practices are fascinating.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and this is strictly speculation, but after I looked at the gun at Hill R&G (actually examined it in hand this past spring), I'd say these guns have a very good chance of coming out of Chas. Osborne shop. Osborne made actions and guns for the trade, these two guns look very similar to other guns I've seen from Osbornes. I still wouldn't doubt that they originated from Midlamd, BSA or even another trade maker like H, B & P. All I'm providing is speculation, sorry I can't help more.
When I said the quality wasn't there, I didn't mean to say that guns quality was poor. It's a good quality gun, obviously. In my opinion, it's just not up to the standard of the higher end of the trade makers.

Good clarification LeFusil, because we are talking about English guns here. I believe the range starts at High Quality to Unbelievable High Quality to Stratospheric High Quality.

Jeweler,

Is there a tiny 'AH & Co' stamp under the barrels, just forward of the flats cut, up tight against the start of the bottom rib?

The engraving is very similar to the Hill Rod & Gun W. Richards, but the Strong has Greener lever work, while the Richards has Scott LW.
