As I posted in another topic recently, I picked up two guns recently at an auction. One was an old muzzleloading hammergun. Chances are this old girl won't ever be fired again, She will make a pretty wallhanger. All the pictures were taken pretty quickly and before I cleaned the guns. They cleaned up nicely. The hammergun even has some case color remaining! She was sure a nice gun in her day:

This side of the stock looks like it had something spilled on nit, but it is actually just part of the grain. Any ideas what could have caused this?

There is one hammer missing, chances of finding a matching one are virtually zero I assume. How much do you all think it would cost to have a duplicate made and engraved? Where can I get a replacement ramrod?

The FN is a SLE. Nice engraving and a nice piece of wood. The engraving cleaned up well, and looks a lot better than it does in the pictures. The wood needs a good cleaning next.

I need to take her to the smith and get her tightened up and given a stamp of health. Ill post pictures of the proofs soon.

Nice finds.
Fascinating grain in that stock; hard to say what could have caused it, but it looks like it ran with the grain - some sort of tubular stain if you looked at a cross-cut log of it.

I emailed you as requested about hunting and shooting in Australia. Did you get it?

Alex,
I've re-sent to the address on your profile (different to the one you listed in your request).
I'll PM it too.
Something must get there eventually!

Alex,
The FN is quite nice. The engraving is very similar to the Browning Superposed Pigeon grade with the light scroll surrounding the flying pigeons and the punched borders. Excellent find!

How long are the barrels?

Nice guns, I like too see the old ones cleaned up and kept & if possible when time and $ permit refurbished if only as a keep sake, usually not a paying proposition but what the heck eh? As far as the wood goes it looks like an old injury healed over possibly made by some animal claws/tusks - just a "wild" guess to be sure. --- John Can.

Alex,
both nice finds.I thought the FN had engaving similar to a Francotte 30 but either that or Browning Pigeon are a lot more than you paid I suspect.Do you have someone to shim the hook or remake a pin to tighen her up?Mike Orlen is down your way.Did you pick up the safe too?
As for a hammer it would cost you more than several times the gun to have one made.Maybe try Dixie Gun Works,Navy Arms for the ramrod and se if they have a hammer thats close enough for fireplace work.
Your emial may not be working as I sent you one too.
