Interesting that hunting images were once viewed as acceptable cover art by The New Yorker Roger Duvoisin

I bumped into this a year or so ago on e bay.fr, when searching for something suitable to hang above my remodeled library fireplace. I was drawn to the lovely lady's hunting attire, her gun handling prowess, and her well-trained bird dog. Actual print from 1920's: Mike

I can't reproduce it, but the one I love comes from the 1922 Verney-Carron catalog. It's a photo of French WWI ace of aces (surviving ace of aces from all countries on both sides, 75 kills) CPT Rene Fonck. Across the photo, Fonck has written: "I am very pleased with your Verney-Carron Helice Grip shotgun. The birds fall like Krauts!" Imagine a similar photo of Alvin York in a Winchester or Remington catalog, with a similar inscription: "Your fine rifle drops deer like I dropped Huns!"
