Specifically for doubles and upland hunting (grouse). All I can think of, off-hand, is the Kittery Trading Post or the folks in China, Maine.

A competent shotgun instructor in that region might be helpful as well.

Riley's in Manchester is just a good all around gun store that sometimes has doubles.
The Gun Vault on Fox Hill is in Fort Kent, about as far North as you can get and still be in the Lower 49 states... But Richard Raymond is a very good man.

gee frank, thanks for the referral... cept, this time of year my hobby gun bidness, which is by appointment only to select preferred customers, which you aint one of, is closed for the winter, as i am now in sunny south alabama, where it is currently 68 degrees and sunny with a slight breeze comin off the bay...
by the way, how cold is it back up there in nh?
keep it simple and keep it safe...

an as for doublegun shops in nh, pickins are slim...combo of local auction houses and the internet have pretty much captured the market for good guns...
keep it simple and keep it safe...

Thanks folks. I was hoping I'd forgotten someone. Oh well, ever try to explain what good fit and a good bird gun is to a semi-neophyte long distance? I can hear the eyes glazing over. I guess it's not really my problem.

by the way, how cold is it back up there in nh? Can't speak to NH, but it was -10F up around Sebago by my car's pretty-accurate thermometer when I was getting out to go rabbit hunting about 8 this morning. As to shops, KTP and Wildwood seem to have the largest number of doubles. If you're going to Wildwood, call first b/c he does do shows. Cabelas will usually have about a dozen doubles in the gun library. Bean's will have about 12-18, with the "good" ones behind glass but accessible by request. IMHO, Beans' selection tends to be overpriced. Other shops tend to have onesies and twosies but road-tripping through Maine bar-hopping gun stores can be fun. Bean's also has some level of shotgun instruction available, but I can't speak to how good it is nor whether it's available this time of year. One more thing - the new Windham Weaponry store (adjacent to their factory on 302 between Windham and Raymond) carries a pretty good selection of shotgun ammunition including Brenneke slugs in 12 and 16, the 16 coming in both 2 3/4 and 2 1/2 inch lengths. Most all the rest of the stuff is black plastic, but....
