What should I be paying for a 1963 V19 20G in very good condition? Is 5K much to high?

Thanks for the help.

That would be at the top end. The gun at Cabela's has had the stock cut and it is quite short. They normally will discount 10-15% ion these.

Thanks Steve, It looks like an inch or more of pad and spacer. I tried to push them a little on price but they only came down $99!I like the gun but I think it would cost $600 - $800 to have a quality stocker add some wood .... Well, still in the hunt!

Probably a Stoeger import. If so, it should be marked Stoeger on the barrels. Usually the 65cm barrels were choked IC/M so I would ask for the actual constrictions. The gun looks in good condition. The R series in 20 gauge goes about 5# 10oz.
The pad is a detriment probably acquired by firing 'High Brass' loads of the era. -Dick

I'm almost positive a regular poster here used to own that gun-I'm not going to "out" him however, perhaps he will chime in when he reads this.

If you are looking at a used Darne and the stock doesn't fit, don't buy it, unless it is something simple like LOP.
Best,
Ted

Ted, yes he did.

The gun has a spacer AND a 1" pad and it's still quite short.

The action has 100% of superficial and uninsprinig engraving.
For that amount of coinage I would keep on going without looking back.
PS. Unlike lot of domestic stuff these things are light enough in 12br so 20br should not bring a premium price tag.

The simple fact is all guns in 20, and more so in 28, bring a premium. I don't get it, but, that is the way it is, Darnes included. A Darne in 16 is about perfect. My preference to engraving on a Darne, or, an Ideal, is Rosace, bolder than English rose and scroll. English engraving looks good on the flat sides of an English boxlock or sidelock, those rounded areas need deeper engraving to make them look oh so graceful.
Since my suspicions are now confirmed about this gun, it is NOT a Stoeger import, it was imported as a used gun from England, of all places, if I am not mistaken. I'm not the only person who thinks an R is a better gun than a V, either.
Best,
Ted
