I have a British shotgun with an interesting trademark on the flats of the action that I'm trying to identify.

The gun is a 12 bore hammerless double by "R. Scott & Co". It has a snap action underlever that not only opens the action (via a purdey type sliding double bolt) but cocks the action prior to lowering the barrels. The gun has cocking levers on the sidelocks which can also be used to cock the locks or to de-cock. In addition to the trademark shown above the gun has "Scott Maker" and "PATENT" stamped on the action flats as well as Birmingham proof marks. I'm not sure which patent it conforms to. The address on the barrel says, "R. Scott & Co. Makers, Middlesborough.(879)Patent". Not sure what the 879 refers to , possible a patent use number.

Any help identifying the trademark or patent would be appreciated.
