Bill: Would you please explain exactly how you use Scotch Brite and a dowell to polish shotgun barrels? Jim

I think Bill probably kerfs the dowel, inserts the ScotchBrite strip and uses the old flap sander technique with the dowel chucked in a drill motor. I have spiral-wrapped fine grade SB on a brass brush on a handleless rod and done the same to a barrel with a low-side water gutter streak of pitting in one barrel. May have smoothed out rust; I didn't really expect to remove enuf material to eliminate pits. I like JB Borepaste on a kleenex wrapped on a brush. I call that polishing. I don't do it often and I don't do it to all barrels, only the ones where I can feel the drag pushing a oiled kleenex thru a "clean" bore. Anyone else do anything similar? Wonder if you can jug choke a gun with a flex hone?

The Flex-hones will not remove any significant amount of metal, as Chuck said. They don't claim to. You could certainly jug choke a barrel with the brake hone type of tool, using the coarsest stone set. AND, a lot of time.

Brownells sells the brake style for 12-16-20-28ga. I have one and have used it a few times. It will do the job but you have to be very careful. If it gets at all hung up it will fly apart. In 20ga barrels the stones hit each other and fall off at times. Not well thought out.
