Good eve, I am hoping once again to enlist some insightful help in understanding the barrel flat coding on the Bayard that I inherited with the Darne equipped gun I asked about earlier this week.
In an attempt to assimilate all the kind help I received on that thread, and utilizing the Belgian proof info I found on this forum, I am postulating that this is a 12 gauge gun that will take 2.75 " shells. One point of confusion for me is that it appears that the year of origin is 1924, but the controller stamp indicates no earlier than 1937.
I also do not see any information related to pressure rating of the barrels.
Thanks for any thoughts!
Ben

The controller stamps are NOT to be used in most dating efforts, in fact, some controllers had secret identities.

The inspectors mark is still an secret so the list here should be regarded as uncertain, but it can in some cases give a more accurate dating that the stamps.

What is the date code above the controller stamp?
If there is none, it puts it before 1922.

Yes, the barrel proofs you posted first were for the barrels and not the barrel set smile
Nice to see the set picture, well done

The Lion over PV is the smokeless proof

Mike,

I like your proof marks page. And thanks for the link to mine. I am so happy to see this. When I started, no one could answer my questions regarding Belgian proof marks. In fact there was a term used on this board at the time "JABC" or Just Another Belgian Clunker. The prejudice has slowly disappeared.

We need others to step forward and get involved in the research. There are still jobber marks and factory marks to be found on some guns that need to to identified.

Thanks again for the nice work.

Pete
