I have been struggling with a LC Smith that has 3” of drop at the heel (my normal drop is 2 1/2); I was really struggling hitting targets. I added a temporary piece of foam to build up the comb by about 3/16”. What a difference that made, I was consistently breaking clays. Question: who makes a good slip on pad that will raise the comb. I see Galazans offers one, has anyone had experience with their pad? Thanks Craig aka Fox-admin

Craig, you can order the various thickness pads from Brownells. If it is a temporary fix, just use black tape to fasten it on. If it is meant to be permanent, they are glued on. The only other ones I have seen are the lace on type and I have not seen any of them for a while.

Think Cabela may have the foam-filled leather lace-up type. Tend to create another problem (lateral alignment of eye).

The best I have seen are the stick ons that this guy carries at:

http://www.classicusc.com/D_E_Elevator_p/deelv01.htm

They are a little pricey at around $25. They look like leather and have very thin sides so it does not cause as much negative cast as the usual ones you see. There are so many sizes, some straight and some with different rise at the front and back that you really have to call and talk to the owner. His name is Al and is very nice.

I bought two from him and my friend bought around ten of them. Classic had a display at Hausman's Hidden Hollow SxS Classic in Pennsylvania a couple of months ago. I also bought one of those three wheel carts from him at a very good price.

I've used the Bear Tooth system on my big Parker Bros. 2 frame 20-gauge that sports a drop of 2 inches at the comb and 3 1/8 inches at the heel of its 1889 vintage stock.

I use the Beartooth as well. Have been very pleased with how it works, although the look of it is not terrific. I would rather shoot better than look good I guess!
