If you screw up that nice looking BTFE by shaving it down you should be ashamed of yourself. Have another one made to shave down if you want to. I am just one for keeping a gun original. But you could always just go out and buy an 870.

A beavertail fored fits around the barrels and therefore the gap under the barrels are not evident to the eye. A splinter forend is fitted under the barrels and the fitting is closer in order to get a proper lock up. In a perfect world there would be no difference between the two. Reality is that what you can't see you don't complain about.

Good point!

I noticed some wearing marks under the forend which will be visble if bwt is replaced with a splinter. So rebluing is needed or why not 2nd set of barrels. I´ll give up the idea of the modification and "try" to live with beavertail, which is much more comfortable. Note that less than 500 shots has been fired.

Good idea on the second barrels with splinter. Not knowing how it is choked, you may want more open chokes than these barrels for field use. Depending on the games you play with this gun, it would then give you a 2 purpose gun.
