With a estimated 35" rain heading your way I hope everyone down in Texas is prepared. Keep safe. If you had more time I'd tell you to ship your dogs and guns up north for safe keeping. Poor dogs would be returned after the rain but good one might need to stay longer, like two months to be sure the water is down. Kidding aside property can be replaced but good people are much harder to come by. Head to the hills.

Lived in Corpus as a kid as dad was stationed there. Port Aranssas was our backyard as we fished for Red Fish and such every weekend. Looks like that area is going to take an absolute pounding. Its all sand down there, so it should drain pretty quickly. FWIW, he has a hurricane when we were stationed there and I remember going from house to house in a rowboat. No storm drains can handle that much water.

Corpus Christi averages 31" of rain per year. They're supposed to get more than that in the next three days. Sure hope most of the cotton is already picked in that area. Probably is.

Stan if it is not it is going to be pre shrunk, well lost really. Crop insurance sucks when you get right down to it. Better than nothing but not that much.

In the run-up to Harvey, the 1900 Hurricane that killed between 6-8000 people in Galveston has been on my mind. Despite telegraphic warnings from Cuba, the hubris of the U.S. Weather Bureau ignored information from what it considered to be unreliable sources. As such, there was no evacuation and two thirds of the city was devastated. Erik Larson's well-written and researched book, Isaac's Storm, gives the account. There was no happy ending. Fortunately in today's world, we do have adequate warning to prevent such massive losses of life. I hope it's not as bad as it could be. Gil

We are experiencing flooding here in the Dallas area, in the form of tens of thousands who fled the Houston area. Hotels, gas stations, fast food places- all inundated. Received a call from a dear friend and board member checking to see if I were ok. Very kind, but we are too far inland to get more than a moderate rain. If you are a Double Gun board member and have had to flee the affected area, send me a pm if you can and I will make a place for you. Mike
