Will you be reloading for this wonderful specimen?

Been re-bored to SK1 and IC, should be a great shooter smile

It's a 2" 12ga marked "Mondiale" on the top lever. Double St. Etienne proof, "50" (for chamber length in MM) stamped on the flats. No bottom rib. Weighs just a bit over 5 1/4. Looks to me like it's yet another gun built on the Helice action.

Congratulations. French 2" guns are rare. You killed two birds with one stone by getting rid of what you didn't need and got something very interesting instead. cool

I suppose maybe I'm just a bit ignorant on the subject, but could the Aguila minishells not be fired in these 2" guns?

They're obtainable when shells are in stock (i.e. not in hunting season)

I had a 2" double but never tried the Aguils shells. First look at them the 5/8 ounce shot is a little light and what pressure are they? I guess CIP but don't know. 2" guns are struck very thin to get the weight down as far as possible so I worry about pressure a lot.

I loaded my own roll crimped cut down Federal Paper hulls and regular crimped paper hulls. Reloading 12 to get what you need is such a easy thing to do these days with the internet as a source of anything you need to work with and load data being so much easier than it was 20 years ago. \

Larry what are you going to use that 2" gun for? Not wild pheasants for sure. Released birds or skeet targets. Just wondering.

Interesting indeed: Helice style toplever stop/tab & steel stamp of Acier Comprimé Special Vulcain. Maybe some home grown steel concern or recipe?

Cheers,

Well I have some Lyalvale 2" Special Game ammo and I would NOT shoot it in a 2" gun. I have shot it in a light 2 1/2" French gun and it kicked the snot out of me, now I just shoot them in HEAVY 2 3/4 inch guns. They have 15/16 ounce of shot!!

I said "reload" to be able to load light loads befitting the fine gun.

The Aguila at 5/8 ounce and VELOCITY of 1175 FPS should do just fine smile

Larry,

I can't tell from the proof marks. The Brits would proof 2" guns for 7/8 oz and 1 oz. What load is this gun proved for?

Thanks

Nice gun Larry. According to the old 96:1 ratio of gun weight to shot weight this one should handle 7/8 oz loads to full power. With the double French Proof I seriously doubt that any 2" 12s have ever been "Factory" loaded that would over stress it.

Even to an avowed Francophobe, that's a pretty little gun.

Loading for that is pas de probleme.

A shell vise, a cutter, a skiver, and a roll crimp tool can be had from BPI for a hunnert bux or so.

Add a drill motor of some kind and you're ready to crank out two inch custom loads.

Cheddite hulls are free by just trash picking, and stubby wads are easily available.

You won't learn how to shoot it unless you practice with it, so get with the program Larry.
