I've handled a Bernardelli Venus Royal and it struck me as an interesting pass shooting goose gun possibility. They come up once in a while in a similar price range.

Most sensible choice might be Parker Hale Ugartechea 10ga with choke tube barrels, DT, beavertail, pg stock. Interesting thing is the gun I examined was built on 12ga magnum frame and the weight was not much more than 9lb. While seldom seen I know they exist because I held one in my hands. I would say since development of 3&1/2" 12ga cartridge and back-bored barrels (more reincarnation because Remington had long range shotgun offerings before WWII) the 10ga is basically dead even more so since advent of Hevi-Shot 12ga loads. The last blow will come when like in Kalifornistan you will only be able to use non-tox loads and there will be no mail in to door ammo obtainable. Before buying one of these be sure to digest what I posted.

Jagermeister,
Why don't you try to answer the OP question if you're able instead of recommending every othe gun he didn't ask about??? Do you have experience with the Beretta or Ithaca 10 gauge Magnum??? Bryan stated he has the means and enjoys having different guns to do different things,

Bryan,
I have no experience with the Beretta but do have a few of the Ithaca 10 gauge magnums. Heavy guns that put a hurting on anything in front of them.

I would take more recently manufactured gun which is Beretta. Another alternative of same quality would be Antonio Zoli (the one with bow & arrow trademark often stamped on "water table".

I've done that many years ago and thankfully, I have options now. I can do it all with a 3" 12 gauge but I enjoy using different guns.

THIS!!!

Also the 12 3.5 will never equal the 10, shot acts differently in that larger bore.

Once a long time ago I found 2 boxes of 10 gauge 2 7/8" 4s back when you could use lead, they where much better duck loads than any 12 gauge offering!!

I have several 12 gauge guns, a couple of 20s and a couple of 10s, they all get used, there is no one gun do it all for me, but if there was i am sure it would be a 10 gauge that weighed 8 pound, with 28" barrels, and ejectors!

Stan, thanks for that feedback. I know the Ithacas are good guns and worked well for Elmer Keith. That's a great endorsement.

I doubt most of us here are in the one gun camp...but we could do everything with a 12 gauge and find shells anywhere. For that matter, I could do everything with a 22 rimfire but that's illegal. Even in remote Alaska where I lived for 10 years, you could find a partial box of 12 gauge shells in the boat, or trapper's cabin or various coat pockets. No big deal and practical. I shot a Mossberg pump up there because if it fell out of the boat, I wouldn't mourn the loss.

These days, I like the classics more than the plastics. I'm not living in the Bush anymore and I enjoy older guns and I don't have to be practical all the time. I'm with you TM...I know I could do it all happily with a light, classic 10 gauge...and I would far rather hunt with a 3.5" 10 gauge than a 3.5" 12 gauge. That's just me and everyone gets to spend their $ the way they like to.

Yes, that's a fun look. I do that every day with GB, GI, etc. as well as certain dealers I have bookmarked as I'm looking for several guns.
