Watch on EBay for that Mec Jr. Easy to find one for a good price. A good used one will last forever. They are built like tanks and very simple to keep working. But one and sell that Lee Loader kit on EBay. A big step up. Most will kill you on shipping.

Ill be fine for my needs with what I have. I did look, and the shipping isnt something I want to pay. Ill wait for a coupon or points from a big sporting goods place and buy a new one down the road.

Also keep an eye on Craigslist locally as scales and MEC loaders often show up

You can probably pick up a used Mec 600 for less than $100. Then you can use a universal charge bar. Combine that with a scale and You're all set. Hows $50 for a pre-1982 600 Jr. with an assortment of bushings, an Easy Load shell tray, 10lbs. of shot, and the newer plastic crimp kit? Works like a charm, is pretty fun work. 500 shells done.

After having used ACB's for years on four different machines, I can truthfully say " they have never changed drops on their own". There is a allen head set screw to lock them where they're set. I'm not really sure what " stable and strong " means when it comes to charge bars, but I just took one out and couldn't break it with my hands. Couldn't wiggle the adjustable part, so it still must be stable. There are some who like them, and some who don't. The Lee press is ok, just not as versatile as a Mec. If you look in a manual from one of the powder companies you'll find there's usually a 3 or 4 grain spread for a load. Pick a low one and you'll still be safe even if by chance you dump a extra grain or so in the shell. Mec bushings are rated for the single stage press and the drop will be lighter with a progressive press. Shotgun reloading isn't metallic reloading. Two or three tenths of a grain powder either way won't make any difference when loading a shotgun shell.

50 is a fine price for that MEC. Grab it and don't look back.

Hey reloading fellows.
All is well with the old MEC. The digital scale has confirmed through a few iterations of confirming the throw at 10x each time. The crimps are looking great. This is the recipe I'm using, and the goal was for a low pressure, damascus friendly, shoulder friendly, load.
Remington STS, Nitro27, or Gunclub Hodgdon Clays 18.8gr Win 209 CB-4100-12 7/8oz #8 5200psi
I shot this load yesterday, and I was very surprised at the hit my should took. I am admittedly new at this, but I was expecting something a lot softer shooting that what was experienced. Not do work up an argument between people, but would not a 7/8oz load like this, with those kinds of pressure tend to equate to a lower recoil?
Thanks.
