Below is a diagram of the rear base on a snap-action drilling I acquired last week. I have never seen this type base before. I am guessing the latching mechanism is in the ring. NECG responded immediately to my inquiry but don't have the ring or know where to get one. I have fabricated rings for claw mounts before but I need something to go by.

Does anyone have a picture of the ring type or can point me towards one?

It is the rear base of a Triebel'sche Einhakmontage.

Resurrecting an older thread in hopes of help learning more about the mounts used on the German double rifle I just acquired. I understand it also has Triebel mounts. The rifle was recently purchased off of Gunbroker. I'll start a thread on it here soon. (auction pics on GB are not around for long but are still up now at https://www.gunbroker.com/item/967656345)

Dave - do you have information you can share on how you solved your need for mounts?

Both Ernst Apel Wuerzburg (EAW) and Recknagel (ERA) have provisions to convert Claw Mounts to Swing Mounts. These provisions are adaptable to your Triebel mounts as well as the classical Shuler claw mounts. New England Custom Guns deals in one or both these company's products.

Thank you Remington40x. I really like the workmanship on the rifle. It has some neat details like single set triggers for both barrels, and a cartridge trap on the top of the comb with a leather lined lid to silence the rounds within.

I am nearly certain it fires 9.3x72r based on a number of factors. First, it is marked as 118.35 gauge, which equates to a bore (not groove diameter) of 0.340 - 0.350". Chambers are straight walled and It is nitro proofed for the powder charge used for 9.3x72r and finally a 360 BPE case exactly fits the rim cutout. The 360 round is basically a 2 1/4" version of the longer 72mm German round.

I will cast it before firing, but I was confident enough to order ammo, which is still made by S&B.

That's about all I know so far. The barrel markings are for a retailer, not maker.

I appreciate the input. I suspect I'll end up pursuing this route. Right now I'm still a bit tied to the idea of making the old mounts work although I know that will require making at least the rear mount.

Makes sense. You should have a good time playing with that rifle. I'd take it deer hunting in upstate Pennsylvania in a heartbeat.

One warning, from personal experience: Don't inadvertently set both triggers at the same time and fire the rifle. I did that (once) with a .250-3000 guild gun (clamshell action) I owned. Fortunately, the cartridge was mild enough that neither the rifle nor I was damaged.

I’m guessing you had the gun double when both were set? Makes sense. The rifle should be fun when I hunt deer with my wife’s family in western Maryland

My German gunsmith buddy said it is safer to carry a gun with the safety off and the trigger unset than with the safety on and the trigger set. The trigger should only be set when you are about to shoot, and if you don't shoot when intended, you should open the gun and release the trigger. BTW it is a very nice gun that I would be very proud to own. I know from personal experience, there are also deer in North Carolina.

Hey Mike - I hear you about NC and deer. I live in a small college town north of Charlotte, a few blocks off Main St and I have deer in my back yard a couple days each month. The attraction of MD for hunting is that my wife's grandfather was able to cobble together over 2500 acres of timberland in the mountains of western Maryland before he passed away. Some has since been sold to the state to keep the back of the bordering river from being developed, but her extended family still has about 2,000 acres of private land. That's heaven. That said, I also need to figure out some options here in NC. Take care. Chris

Family land is always the best to hunt on. Two thousand acres of timberland is a sweet deal and not having to pay for hunting rights would make up for non-resident hunting license. When I was stationed at Ft. Bragg, I was able to hunt on post but I also was able to go in with a couple local friends and leased hunting rights on a small farm (about 200 acres) outside a small place called White Oak, toward the coast from Bragg. I only killed one deer but had a lot of fun. The point was, the cost was divided among the hunters, so wasn't too much for each one. Small timber farmers that don't live on the land are often happy to lease hunting rights for enough to pay the taxes.
