Those programs are sustainable in countries with higher than US standards of taxation, living, health, literacy, and education, and for far longer than in North America. Why aren't they sustainable in the most influential and wealthy country in the world? Wait until they have to start paying for their imaginary army. How’s that coming by the way? Sunny Boy sure didn’t waste any time sending his peeps down to L.A. and Miami to let the “immigrants” know that Canada wasn’t the warm and friendly place they saw in the brochure. ____________________________ How ‘bout them Leafs, eh?

Poor Lars Eller sure is glad for that “free” health care after that beating he took from Nova Scotian Brad Marchand.

Did you notice that I specified "under the current parameters"? If you change the parameters, you change the economics and that changes the math. US defense spending is certainly part of the equation, but other things like virtually unfettered immigration that brings in millions of the world's neediest people create a significant drain on economic resources. There is no single solution to any of these problems, but it seems that part of the solution mix is going to be increased taxes and reduced benefits, coupled with a realignment of priorities. It won't be pretty, but it will be necessary.

I wouldn’t worry too much that King thinks this is actually a problem. It’s probably seen as an opportunity. I think it would take some time, but the solution is only painful under the current mindset, eh King. What do you think King, maybe three fourths of the snowflakes would fall be the wayside in ten years if the education system flipped back to right of center?

Yes, I noticed that in your carefully measured post. As well reference military spending, and consequently my musing of how sustainable is that at more than $1,000,000 a soldier in Afghanistan alone. I believe your forecast is accurate.

How about a bloc---Scandinavia? We are talking about sustainable, right King? Denmark will be running out of oil in the not too distant future. They are already concerned about it. National debt and deficit is rising. Luckily they have largely avoided the Swedish mistake of unfettered economic migrant immigration. Sweden isn’t doing to bad when we look at their history. National debt is about 1/2 of Canada on a Per Capita basis. But their economy is tanking while spending and current deficits are rising rapidly. And, thanks to primarily Muslim economic migrants, they have rapidly developed a state dependent population of non working adults getting near 10%. Finland, all I’ll say is maybe. They are all living on borrowed time/ money. Overall debt levels are rising while the tax base as a percentage is decreasing. Doesn’t look very sustainable to me. The leftist / socialist way......” Let’s spend our grandchildren’s money”. A despicable approach if you ask me.

As I said earlier, craig, K accelerates mitigation of current US dystopia. Education will take at least a generation. It will be painful for any mindset.

Over a decade ago, a buddy without health insurance needed a hernia repair. It was going to cost him $15K to have it done as an outpatient--and that was supposedly a cut rate deal procured by close friends in the medical profession. He researched it himself and located the Shouldice Hospital in Canada which specialized in the eponymous procedure. The total cost including air fare to and from Canada, the surgery, and hospital bill was $3k. He said the hospital was like a hotel and the food was outstanding. Gil
