I've never bought from Charlie but, while in Bozeman in 2006, I went to his shop and had a good impression of him. I've not heard any negative comments about him.

I've looked at his guns off and on for years. Never bought one but I've been tempted many times. He has some nice stuff.

I thought the business had changed hands a few years ago. I tried to visit Hill Rod and Gun in its Bozeman Hotel showroom once while attending my oldest son's wedding near there. You have to make an appointment to visit...Geo

I have had good dealings with Charlie. Many imported guns from the UK have been refinished at some point in their lives. I am sure mine was. At seasons' end in the UK, guns were routinely shipped back to the gunmaker who would strip and clean, re-blacken metal parts as needed and refinish woodwork as needed. It is mostly with collectors in the US who devalue guns because of refinishing which has nothing to do with a gun going "bang-bang".
