Researcher,

I must have been writing my post as your were posting. And thank you for your thoroughness as it seems to be your calling card.

Very first post, Stan. Western Arms. That's the part that makes it an Ithaca product.

Thanks Larry, but in the third post he says it is marked Western Field.

Were they marked Western Arms on the action and Western Field on the barrels? Just asking.

Stan,

On the model I have the only names that appear are
Montgomery Ward on the receiver and WESTERN FIELD DELUXE on the left barrel.

So, it doesn't say Western Arms anywhere on it?

Right. Confusion between those two posts, cleared up by his subsequent post about only being marked Western Field-Deluxe.

However, as noted on the first page, we'd had discussions here previously about Western Arms guns being sold by Wards. Similar situation with Hunter Arms boxlocks . . . the Fulton having been marked Ranger and sold by Sears. Also Marlin 90 similarly marked Ranger by Sears.

But I believe we're now in agreement that it is in fact a Western Arms Deluxe.

Stan,

Sorry for any confusion but Western Arms does not appear anywhere on the shotgun.

On my original post I thought that it might be a Western Arms but afterwards I wanted to clarify exactly what is printed on the shotgun.

Sorry to be so late to the party. I have a 16ga, Westernfield Deluxe. Mine is an Ithaca, Western Arms, Long Range Gun. It has nice checkering and ejectors.

Western Arms serial numbers range 1-65xxx. They have a dog engraved on each side of the frame. The trip is located below the barrel extension.

Nitro-Special serial numbers start at 100,000 and run to 302xxx. There will be a goose in flight on each side of the frame. The left side of the top lever has a bulls eye vs being checkered. The trip is located forward of the breech face, similar to the NID.

After doing some more reading I believe this to be the same as yours John. My serial number is in the 9300 range.

Unfortunately I can't find anything for the top lever removal.

On the Numrich site the parts are identical to the Lever Nitro Special but they do not have a schematic.

I'm new on the flow of this site but should I relist this under the gunsmithing section or is this satisfactory?
