The son of lifelong friend who is also now a friend as an adult has an outstanding English Pointer. The EP is now 14. At 8, he was wasting away. Local vets couldn't diagnosis the issue and he was on death's door. Sperm was harvested and stored frozen to preserve the lineage. He was advised by the local vet to take the dog to the UGA vet school where a rare condition preventing the digestion of normal dog food and raw meat was diagnosed and a nutritionist prescribed a food which was rich in amino acids. The diet saved the dog's life. Gil

As always Frank, your thoughtfulness and consideration is your value. I bet them California vets will even do face lifts and tummy tucks for a price.

Thanks for the alert. Only yesterday another dog food was recommended to me. It's third on the FDA list of suspects.

The FDA is careful to say that reports might not tell the whole story and is continuing its investigation. I've been a subscriber to dog food alerts https://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-recall-alerts/for years and it's worth subscribing to. However, the advisor's list of best dog foods in 2019 includes Blue Buffalo which is in the list of foods giving the FDA concern. Gil

The Pet Food Institute paid for the study. They could have an agenda. I see Blue Buffalo is a member but most of the affected brands are not. Not saying there is nothing to the study or cause for concern. The pet food industry is big business and there is a lot of money at stake.

The pet food industry is like the mafia. They largely govern what can be put on their lables, which can be grossly misleading. For example: "Limited Ingredient" labeled dog food is hardly that at all. In fact, as I was looking for foods that my dog could digest properly, I found Limited Ingredient foods didn't identify all the contents at all. The biggest bully on the block of them is Purina. A lot of people don't like to hear that because Purina is a long established brand in the states. In fact, they have been owned by a foreign company for almost 20 years. From what I can tell, all ingredients in dog foods don't have to be explicitly identified on the label. It's more of a vague reference than identification.
