Does anybody here know the production of 12 ga. Winchester M21's total, and the number within this of Skeet guns?

I'm trying to understand the relative scarcity of Skeet guns versus others within the M21 production run.

Thanks,
GG

If the number of Model 21 Skeet Guns on Guns International is any indication, it was a sizable percentage.

Good suggestion for a work-around.

I see about ~375 Win M21's are for sale on the GI site, and 51 of them are 12 ga. Skeet guns.

So if the present day for-sale ratio is representative of the original production ratio, (and if my sums are correct) then about 14% of the production were 12 ga. skeet guns.

A response elsewhere to my query was that to the best recollection 30K were manufactured, 60% were 12 ga. and 10% of total were Skeet.

That would suggest ~1,800 Skeet 12s. Maybe somebody can find some hard factory numbers.

In closing, I guess "rarity" has different definitions. Based on the GI offerings, it appears you can purchase all the M21 12 ga. skeet guns you want, at least if you are willing to pay $5K plus!

Thanks,
GG

28" 12 gauge Skeet Guns are much more scarce than 26" guns and sell for more money. You certainly don't have to spend five grand to get a good 12 gauge skeet, as long as you will accept a 26" gun. The original manufacture of 28" against 26" guns has nothing to do with the number of each for sale on the internet. The 28" guns are in the hands of happy owners. The 26" guns are on the internet sale sites. 28" skeet guns were the only skeet guns catalogued in the last decade or more of Model 21 production, and it is assumed that the catalog offering far exceeded the non catalogued 26" gun in production numbers. Where are they now? In private hands and not for sale.

By the time Winchester switched from 26" to 28" as the "standard" barrel length for Model 21 Skeet Guns, side-by-sides had really fallen out of favor as serious skeet guns.
