What did you bid on? I bid on an unusual British percussion rifle. We will see soon enough....

20 and counting. Had you been there and continued it, bidding, would have escalated most likely. Auction have a way of getting out of control. Best to set a reasonable maximum bid and not look back if you dont win.

Almost 50 years ago I outbid a fellow on a piece of land. For years he bitched that I only won that auction by 500 dollars. After listening to him for years I explained I only had to bid 500 more than him to win but could have bid 5000 more if needed. He could not so he lost. I got over my win and he should get over his loss. He didnt, but never spoke much about it to me after that.

Holts is a crap shoot to me. I suspect the best things never leave very far and the worst things end up going down the road. Like to my place.

Mixed bag for sure but I have seen and gotten some very good deals there. I did not need another British percussion rifle but it is rarely a case of need.

Please never let my wife hear such talk. In the end I went zero for four. Worst beat down was a gun with an upper estimate of 700 pounds which I bid to 2,000 pounds before I watched it go for 2,500 pounds plus the vig. My on the spot person thought it might go as high as 1800-1900. 2000 tops. Almost as bad a beat down as last years 3,000 gun which went for 20,000 pounds. Estimates are for general interest only and not to be used as a guide.

The estimate on the one I bid on was close, 500-700 est. hammered at 820gbp. My friend bid on the Gibbs Farquharson, est. 1500-2k, he bid 2500 and it hammered at 2600 gbp. Not too far off, but you are right about them not being a guide for bidding.

Often best checking with them for 'unsold lots' which can be picked up at the reserve or sometimes less by agreement with the Vendor. Lagopus..

Nice, Mike. I bid on 2 today at Gavin's, with no success. The Boss side lever and Radcliffe .410 ejector were not meant to be in my safe!
