A nice little 16 hammer gun with no makers name in the usual places. Do the J.W. or BA tell us anything? Is the small roebuck head a makers mark? Is the 10.05/19 a production date?

thanks,

Rob

Yeah, 10.05 is a Z-M date code for Oktober 1905. JW is more than likely a Julius Wolfe/Wolff mechanic & I have seen the antlered beast prior, but I will have to search.

Not sure that the name for the encircled >>B.A.<< mechanic would be Bruno Apel of Suhl, but that is one of the few matches. A relative of the estranged GGCA founder Dietrich Apel. Brno A. or Bernhard A. but for now I don't know if either exists as a Z-M mechanic. Now there was a Brno Anschütz of Z-M but I am unsure if he was active in 1905?

Are there any touchmarks on the standing breech or any logos on the buttplate?

Neither Raimey.

The 577 must be a serial number of some sorts or assembly number, since there may have been 576 more of these I would think there should be a makers mark. Unless that's from the proof house?

There is a 3" long oval in the rib matting where a name/address would go but it's blank.

thanks,

Rob

Yeah, Nr. 577 is the serial nummer. The maker's mark is the antlered beast I'd say. I have another image or 2 somewhere so upon locating, can I forward them to you to post?

Does it have a menacing muzzle?

Crosshatched muzzle. Is the term >>Nitro<< stamped on the sides of the tubes. Also a Zella Mehlis concern with the name Wolff & Anschütz was active during this period @ Marktstraße 9. I would harzard a guess it was J. Wolff and some Anschütz mechanic, maybe Brno? So maybe the antlered beast is that of Wolff & Anschütz but I have zero proof for the moment.

No Crosshatch, no NITRO on barrels.
Thanks for the other info. I have to check wall thickness on this to see if safe to shoot, bores look too good for the exterior...
