Replacement,

Same deal here in WA; non-toxic only on pheasant release sites (pretty much all of the public lands). I bought a Benelli Ultralight just because of it when the law kicked in. Started with steel #4. Nothing hit the ground dead. Luckily I have good dogs. I settled on 1 1/4 oz. 3" steel #3 shot, which does the trick. I don't notice the recoil. Now I shoot Bismuth #5 shot, 1 oz., in a 20 gauge double or O/U. Works just fine.

Bruce, I have to say, I have killed a fair number of birds with #4 steel in 12 gauge, 2.75". All wild birds over mostly flushing dogs at that.

While I have never tried them( I'm pretty decrepit now), George at T&G German Gun Imports is pretty "high" on APEX shells. From what I gather they use Tungsten shot and would be classified as non-toxic. They also seem to be made in the US. They are expensive, but I don't know if one round costs as much as five rounds of steel.

All we hear is complaints about crippling birds with steel shot... except from anti-lead ammunition advocates like BrentD.

Of course, this is the same anti-lead BrentD that absolutely hates this forum, and encourages a financial boycott of support for this forum... Yet he cannot stay away and remain at the Upland Journal forum that he does support.

A true sign of mental illness is any gun owner who would vote for an Anti-Gunner like Joe Biden.

This has been recognized for millennia as hypocrisy.

Anyone who puts any stock in the words of a hypocrite deserves the outcome that may result from their gullibility.
