10th from top here a Christian Daniel Janeck related to Christian Daniel:

https://www.ancestry.com/search/collecti...0OTs1MA-61--61-

Wonder if there were two gunmakers (father and son?) of the same name.

>>Julius Richard Janeck<<

I now wonder if the J of >>J. Janeck<< seen on Janeck in Dresden sporting wares is that of Julius Richard Janeck & he was the brother of Christian Daniel Janeck, Sr. and uncle of Christian Daniel Janeck, Jr.? Just a big hypothetical........ Wild supposition.

Many thanks to Peter / älgmule / moose snoot of Småland, Sweden for dredging the bowels of the internet, and possibly other sources, churning up info like an auger.

Christian Daniel Janeck obtained his master mechanic's sheepskin circa 1828 and hung out his gunmaking shingle the year of the same or 1829. He can be found as a Büchsenschäfter(gun stocker) at Reitbahngaße 451 in 1829. Two years later in 1831, he is found as a Büchsenmacher and almost 40 years later in 1870 he can be found under his final listing as a Büchsenmacher, being located @ Feldgaße 10. A year later in 1871 only two Janecks are listed in Dresden with both being located @ the same address of Josephinenstraße. One, a Christian Adolf Janeck being an Ingenieur(Engineer) and the other his wife Laura Antoniette Janeck a Lehrein(Teacher). The lone Janeck in Dresden in the 19th century is Lehrerin(Teacher) Franzeska Camilla Janeck and she drops off the map by 1907 but reappears in 1914, possible due to WWI? In the following years up to WWII a few other Janecks pass thru Dresden, but none are listed as gunmakers. Also, similar names like Janecke, Jänicke, Jaenicke and Janecek appear, but none were in the sporting weapons trade.(Paraphrased by yours truly.)

Thanks for all the interesting information on this early European maker. Will be interesting to see if any other Janeck doubles survived. I probably won't shoot it any longer, but continue to admire the fine workmanship, especially, the engraving and locks with their set trigger mechanism.
