SKB. Just out of interest as I collect Rosson guns and information on same. Would be interested in buying if you were in the U.K. but never mind. The way to date Rosson guns is that the first two digits of the serial number are the year it was made. Yours would most probably date to the 1800's. I would be interested to see a copy of the trade label if possible. Looks like an early example made just after he took over from the partnership on Dobson & Rosson when Dobson died and he bought out the business from his widow. The 4, M

Darned computers!!!! I was going to add that the 4, Market Head address was used until 1941 when it changed to 12 Market place, Derby when the street was re-numbered. Business taken over by his younger son Percy James Rosson and traded there until the 1950's. Bit more info for the potential purchaser. Lagopus…..

Lagopus,
There does not seem to be a serial number on the gun. Nothing on the frame, trigger guard or barrel. I'm not sure if you can see in my picture but the lock is marked "Charles Rosson" as well as the barrel reading "converted by"

Thanks for coming back to me with the photo. I have saved it in my archive as I'm sure you won't mind.

I have a single 20 bore by a Birmingham maker that says on the top rib 'Converted by'. Stripping it down I found that the barrel had come from a muzzle loader and he had brazed on a breech and lumps and made it into a top lever gun. Basically he had just built a gun but used an old barrel. It wasn't until I stripped down the barrel for browning that I could make out where the old ramrod pipes had been fitted. Thanks for the update. Michael.....
