FWIW, I found one of my bridle screws was broken when I checked a sidelock last year.

I have had broken screws, and broken bridals. I made a new bridal for this gun and all new screws after taking it down and finding that several screws were poor quality replacements and that the bridal was broken. It need a new sear spring as well so I forged one. It was a fair bit of work but a really cool rifle. Kinda miss that one.

I have used several Older" sidelocks over the years, both American & European (Including British). All were lower-end guns, no London Bests in the bunch.

I am also in the cam that loosened lock screws have never been a problem. Some 40+ years ago I had a stirrup break in a J P Clabroughs, back-action sidelock. This is, I believe, a pre-1900 gun. I made a new stirrup for it & it's still good to go.

I just now removed the lock on an 1884 Springfield trapdoor that had seen very little use. Both bridle screws were a quarter turn loose. My original point is simply that it's something to check for. If you do so and there's no problem, you're not out anything despite the Organ Grinder's intrusion.

You're always a joke Billy. I don't see where anyone is finding a rash of loose screws under lock plates, And really, considering how many times you have lied to us here, I'd have to be looking over your shoulder at that Trapdoor as you pulled the lock to believe you now.

David Williamson made an excellent point about messing with screws. Too many gun owners do not have the proper hollow ground screwdrivers, and may cause damage when there was none to begin with.

I am glad that you can't stop thinking about me. I'll feel OK about imputing motives so long as you keep repeating Anti-gun Democrat propaganda and accusing Conservative here of being ignorant dolts who get all their news from the National Enquirer.
And your silly notion that I defend all of the 2nd Amendment just to cling to my AR-15 is stupid too. I don't own an AR-15, or an AK-47 for that matter. I just don't think you have the right to insist that law abiding gun owners should give up any part of their rights to shoot, hunt, or defend their family with any legal firearm they see fit to own and use.

The Liberal Left anti-gun Democrats that you support don't like any of our guns, and I am not interested in appeasing either them or you.

It might be interesting to discuss all the loose screws in your otherwise empty skull Billy. But all the red permanent Loctite in the world can't fix you.

Keith, Your stupidity does not deserve a response, but for the benefit of members only marginally smarter than you, I'll just say one more time that I'm only reporting my experience. If no one else in the universe ever encountered anything like this,so be it. My motive was to suggest others may want to check this possible problem. Why this should require you to exhibit your mental issues is surely a mystery to everyone here with any sense at all. PS: Flaunting your symptoms is not therapeutic.

Hahaha... rocky mtn bill, the gun owner who supports and votes for the most extreme anti-gunners, thinks that he is qualified to judge stupidity and good sense.

Billy, I'm not at all concerned about your motive for starting this thread. But all here should be concerned about having back-stabbing gun owners like you in our midst... constantly undermining our 2nd Amendment freedoms, and helping to put anti-gun politicians in power. And if pointing that fact out gets under your skin, well, that's a good thing.

" having a back-stabbing gun owner in our midst" ??? What are you afraid of? Do you think I'll infect the entire site? I'm not here to promote a conversion to the Democratic Party. I just want to speak for reason and common sense. You play your role as the resident sociopath and I'll make a case for objective reality.

Bill, we are all waiting for you to do that....make the case for objective reality....but so far, no luck.

Does then mean you will be approaching things differently in the future? Or sticking to the anti capitalist, socialist fantasy land party line?

Inquiring minds want to know. laugh

BTW, I have no worries whatsoever about your dogma infecting anyone here. Some of your past students perhaps, when they were young and impressionable. But not this group.

Reason and common sense? Liberals think they have a monopoly on them when in truth they have neither
