Mine was the old Orlen "Choke & Chamber Music" chart. Isn't that cute? Gives 6 and 14 pts. as the familiar IC/MOD in 20 ga. Personally, I also think all 20s should be choked fullnfull so one can go about missing with full confidence that one has a concentration which will kill.

Sorry Raimey:
-"Gough Thomas's GUN BOOK Shotgun lore for the sportsman" G. T. GARWOOD M. SC., F.I.C.E., F.I.E.E. Chartered Engineer ADAM & CHARLES BLACK LONDON ISBN 0 7136 1008 5
-"Gough Thomas's Second Gun Book more shotgun lore" ADAM & CHARLES BLACK LONDON ISBN 0 7136 1265 7
Hope this helps. There are other books by Mr. Garwood, but these are the ones I have on loan at the moment. Pertinent articles in them include: -"Fallacy of choke" -"Choke versus cylinder-permissible aiming errors" -"Choke-a neglected aspect" -"How choke works" -"Mysteries of choke (I)" -"Mysteries of choke (II)" -"What is my choke?" And several others on ballistics, patterns, range; all very enlightening (to me at least).
I should mention that I finally measured (and patterned) my son's model 53 16bore AyA and the Galazan choke gauge I used would not go in in either of the barrels. As far as the shooting we usually do, it is really a handicap to have such a gun that was surely made for live pigeons. It needs opening up asap, and I would choose .004 & .017 (using the "Choke & Chamber Music" chart as reference) JMTC

Hey Guys, its a Sterly, not a Purdy....
If I were you, I would send it to Orlen for a set of choke tubes.
Then you will have one shotgun you can use for everything. You will use the gun more, and never worry about not having the right choke. The worst that will happen is your kids may get a few hundred less when they sell it, a month after your funeral. In the meantime, you will have used and enjoyed the gun.
I have three SxS's with choke tubes, and haven't yet been struck by lightening.

I am still on the steep side of a learning curve about these guns but I thought that the pattern of a shotgun was determined not just by the restriction of the choke but also how the shot entered the choke and the loads used. I keep hearing restriction stats but nothing about taper into restriction, overboring, length of choke etc. Is choke boring even an absolute science?

Jack, the only available measure I have is what the barrels say: 16,8mm or 0.66141732" Oddly enough, the left barrel is marked as having 1mm (16,8 - 15,8) constriction and the right one only 0,1mm (16,8 - 16,7) , but the Galazan choke gauge would not go in. Comments? JC(AL)

Bored .006" under nominal in the bore, I would think most of the steps on the "full" [small] end would enter the choke if it's only choked .1 mm. What's a tenth of a sillymeter? Misstamped?

For what it is worth, I just had my 20ga Flues choked .003 & .010 for use as a Grouse/Woodcock gun. Shot skeet with it and RST's 2 1/2 dram 7/8oz #9's and really liked it. Need to hit the pattern board before heading to MI in a week and a half, but based off what I have seen it should fit my bill.
