I think both Jaeger and Bittiner/Scholberg had a hard time selling this gun due to its non traditional action, based on what I have read. Oddly enough some of those same people who shared that information claimed that this action was indeed stronger and they had never seen one off face. I personally like these 2 guns first based on strength, but also the fences are amazingly carved, the bottom of the action has decent engraving with gold pigeon, the border engraving is just enough and of course this grade came with their best wood and embellished ( skeleton/ tipped toe and heal) butt.
I was surprised to see the bolsters( engraved wings) on the sides of the barrels, very similar to D.M Lefevers bolsters. See pic below
I think that the bolsters make up for the box like aesthetics of the action. Those fences combined with the bolsters draw my attention away from the squareness of the action.
Who copied who with the wing looking bolsters that I find very appealing?
Mike I will purchase all the “ German working gun” actions that I can find that have fences like these and gold inlays. At the right price.
