All original. I think it is a reworked military action. It has all the Jeffery patent sights. Barrel marked "sighted and shot by W.J. Jeffery"

Very nice. Looks like a Steyr made action in 1909. Would love to see close up pics of that neat rear sight on the bolt.

I bought it as a .256 Gibbs magnum, which is a 6.5x57 with 2mm cut off the neck. Some rifles shoot the 6.5x57 fine due to generous neck/throat dimensions on vintage British rifles. I do need to chamber cast it but nothing appears to have been altered to the naked eye.

SKB The 6.5x57 is a great cartridge, I have the rimmed version in a re-barreled drilling, it kills great.
Waterman, The original 6.5x55 had a larger headsize and wouldn't chamber( I'm guessing ), but some American made 6.5x55 cartridges were loaded in 06 headsize cases as regular production. I found this out while helping my brother set a rifle up. This way they could use existing drawing dies. Depending on shoulder location then, some American made 6.5x55 might chamber. It's more fun to load your own, though. Mike

I have a 256 Gibbs Magnum on a 1903 Greek M/S. A sporter rifle built by Geo. Gibbs.
The Jeffery looks like a sporter built on a Greek Military also.
The chamber in mine will not accept the slightly larger base of the Swede Mauser cartridge. It is a standard(?) Mauser base dia for the 7x57, 8x57, ect.
I form cases from 8x57 brass with a shortened LEE 6.5Swede FL die to push the shoulder back. The cases also need the body dia at the shoulder reduced. I induce that with a shove into a 303Brit FL size die.
There doesn't appear to be any alterations to the 1903 rotary magazine or feed guide to make the 256Gibbs Mag work.
Wish mine looked as nice as that Jeffery!
