ah awl ways heard ah swamped rib was a frenchie thang, ware the top rib is mostly below the top surface of the barrels...scene it on anglish gons from time to time, as well...

purpose is to help us keep our heads down, so our cheeks would be closer to the comb of the stock...supposedly, we have a tendency to look over the barrels, which makes us shoot low...

least, dats watt ah heard years ago...

an as to concave ribs, well dats ah whole nutter thang...

an hit makes sence dat ah swamped rib would also be concaved...

jes like halloway says an schefelbottoms pitcher shows...

I always looked at the rib like a runway...

Im not that good a pilot so I like a broad runway to guide me on my launch...

I wish all my guns had Broadway ribs.

Wrong. I'm a great swimmer. I just do a poor imitation of an unconscious crawfish.

Both my 16 gauge SxS's have concave game ribs. They both sink in the middle, so I suppose they are technically swamped ribs.

I'm currently trying to figure out why I shoot one a lot better than the other. The guns are less than an ounce different in overall weight. I went to some expense making sure the fit and triggers were as identical as possible.

I've narrowed it down to either this; The one I shoot best has the teeter-totter balance point 5 1/4 " ahead of the trigger and it's barrels are 1.6 oz heavier. My other balances 5" ahead of the trigger.

Or this; The one I shoot best has a matte black finish on the game rib that stands out visually, and the one I shoot less well has a blued rib that tends to blend in with the barrels.

You can't "aim" with a game rib, but I tend to think the contrast of the matte rib feeds info in my periphery.

I've even considered smearing something on the shiny rib to give it some contrast and wish I could somehow make it a matte black.

Or, it's simply a faster gun for which I gave it credit and I'm sluffing it.

I dunno.
