I used to say the "set up" costs enough they should give you the lathe, just so you would buy the "set up". I made a lot of the tooling myself, and in the process learned a lot. If you buy a flat back chuck and make the back plate on the spindle it will be used on, it will likely turn truer. I never made a cam lock back plate , but did make different size threaded ones and L00 long taper, also 5C collet closer and 3c closer( a type "chuck). Making tooling using " scrounged" material gives you the confidence to work on an expensive gun.
