One of our gun club members showed up Saturday with a Charles Daly single barrel trap gun and he was looking for more information about it. It was dated 5/30, and had the usual German proof marks and Prussia stamped on it. 70mm chamber marking.

We were trying to figure out who made the gun for Daly. The only maker’s mark I could find was poorly struck or partially polished off. The first letter could have been a B or a P or D, the second was definitely an A and the third was completely unreadable. Any idea who the maker was?

I am fairly certain the wood was refinished, but it was in good condition and had a fleur-de-lid and ribbon checkering pattern. The action had very gold colored case coloring, which might of been original, as the engraving (50% fine scroll) was still quite sharp.

He let me put a couple of shots through it on the 16 yard range and I was fortunate enough to break all three birds at which I shot.

Dalys don’t appear very often in my world and this one certainly could come live at my house anytime it wanted to.

the prussia stamp is a big clue...

sounds like, most likely, could be...a pre ww1 jp sauer made gun...cept the 5/30 (may, 1930 ) stamp does not fit the mold...as sauer stopping stamping guns "prussia", before 1918...more or less...

or sauer, may have had a bin of old trap gun frames layin around since before the war...daly buyer places order for trap guns...sauer boss says , "usen upenz dees olt partzen...daze goin tu americanschults, unt nine bodies carin"...so dats the story...maybe...

Lindner Daly SBTs were only offered by SD&G c. 1909 (but were not cataloged until c. 1911) until 1916.
SD&G offered (mostly) Schuler SBTs again 1924-1928.

Most likely a J.P. Sauer made gun. The date code is well past the Lindner made gun period, having been proofed in May of 1930. And many think it likely that Sauer made or had a big part making many of the Lindner guns. The initials, if on the underside of the barrel are probably those of the barrel maker/borer.

From the finite few that I have viewed, I would say Gebrüder Adamy. Any marks on the standing breech. Images would be most beneficial.
