Too, he mainly hailed from Berlin but this Winter 2015 - Volume 26 Issue 4 notes Bonn as the retail outlet. I guess he may have had a satellite office in Bonn. What say you Wolfgang of Bonn? Did you visit his shop as a lad? Serbus, Raimey rse

>>G.M. Sch. No. 61920<< Germans would typically apply >>Nr.<< instead of No??? Serbus, Raimey rse

Hello All, Thanks for the reply.
I'll take a lot of detailed pictures when I get the gun in hand.

Raimey,
this is the first time I've heard of Otto Bock in Bonn! Of course he was in Berlin... This must be a mix-up, or is there an inscription on the barrels? Well, I'm not the youngest anymore, but I'm not that old that I could have met Otto Bock either... No. (Numero)was the usual abbreviation in the past, today one uses mostly Nr. for number.

G.M.Sch. = Gebrauchs Muster Schutz, today: Gebrauchsmusterschutz. The Gebrauchsmusterschutz is the "little brother" of the patent and an industrial property right. The differences to the patent have become smaller with the latest amendments to the Utility Model Act.
From Wikepedia:
Otto Bock had his company in Berlin W. 8 from 1883 to 1926, first in Kronenstr. 9 and later in Kronenstraße 7. He was royal Prussian court supplier to the Emperor and King of the Hohenzollerns and the Crown Prince. In 1901, he produced a ceremonial rifle for the Shah of Persia.
In 1905, at the suggestion of the German colonial administration, he developed the 9.3 × 62 mm hunting rifle cartridge for the colonial settlers in what was then German Southwest Africa, now Namibia, from the 8 × 57 mm IS military ordnance cartridge. The cartridge was intended to be fired from inexpensive rifles, i.e. normal carbine 98k systems, and still be suitable for hunting savannah game and self-defense against dangerous African big game. The cartridge is still very popular with hunters of strong European big game such as wild boar, red deer and elk.

Otto Bock is still in business, but don't know if guns are one of the products offered, or even whether it's the same company.

All I have found that Otto Bock of Berlin was a specialist in Ausstopferei/Mounts and was a known peddler of Hirschhornwaren/Horns, hanging out his shingle in 1883.
Alright Wolfgang, you aren't quite as old as I thought(I actually am well aware). But do tell the difference between Gebrauchs Muster Schutz & Gebrauchsmuster. Or maybe why or why not is the term >>Schutz<< added or omitted?

Raimey,
Gebrauchsmuster & Gebrauchsmusterschutz both mean the same...
The Gebrauchsmuster is an unexamined property right. Novelty, inventive step and industrial applicability are not examined in the registration procedure. This makes Gebrauchsmuster Schutz (protection) easier, faster and less expensive to obtain than patent protection. However, there is also a greater risk that the utility model will be attacked and possibly cancelled. In cancellation or infringement proceedings, the substantive requirements for effective utility model protection, such as novelty, inventive step and industrial applicability, are subsequently examined.
Cheers, Wolfgang

Ok, a follow up question then: what is Gebrauchsmusterschutz No. 61920?
