Great find Dan! Is it marked in any way?

I have pictures of that same Adolph rifle in my "gun porn" file. The pictures are marked gunbroker-archerarmspawn. I added them to my file on 1/5/2014. The only other notation I have is "rebarreled by Hoffman", probably got that from the GB description. The rifle still looks good.

I seen the first 3 pictures and just expected to see a ribbed or even octagon barrel, was not expecting to see a Hoffman looking barrel, sling mount, and front sight. That got me thinking maybe it is a John Wright stock?

This rifle is a Hoffman and so marked on the barrel, but it doesn't have a city marked. Michael says if just marked Hoffman Arms Co it was probably made on speculation and not for someone who ordered it. I do think that the stock is by John Wright. Greg is right in that it was on GB for years way back when Michael was still with us. It was priced very high and he came down every so often and I think it ended around $7500. Jim who lived close said the guy would never come down to a realistic price. Michael said back then if it got down to $4000 to buy it, but that was when Hoffmans were at their peak. Maybe the guy passed on as it came up with a starting price of $800 so it was actually going to be sold by the same shop. Gun is not in the best condition but it was a really nice gun at one time. Only one other bidder but he pushed me up.

Lots of potential on that one, what a great rifle.

DanLH- Do you remember if the older GB description mistakenly called it an Adolph stock? I had it filed under Adolph and am wondering if the description was wrong or if I was suckered into mistakenly calling it an Adolph by the carving panel over the magazine and the shape of the cheekpiece.

I don't remember the description from the original ads, but Michael did originally think it might be an Adolph stock, which it could actually be. Tomorrow I will send Fred some photos to post showing a G&H with Wright stock and an Adolph. Maybe Shane can add his expertise on Hoffmans.
