D'après le "Qui est qui" de l'arme de France, en France, l'entreprise J. Brunet a exercé de 1924 à 1977.
Pour moi, c'était un donneur d'ordres. Il faisait fabriquer des fusils et les vendait avec son nom.

Amazing & informative. So would 8000 pièces be considered high, low or medium production for a compagnie in Saint-Étienne?

Fab 500 I just read your comments and it correct. Your info comes from Maurice Forrissier's book "l'armurerie de St Etienne au 20 ieme siècle page 117. Estimated production is my opinion also close to reality. Raimey Chartres is an other region and not so close with St Etienne. French is my second language; so it is not difficult for me.
Cheers, Marc.

Out in Africa and am not checking the mail that regularly. So I opened this French tread this evening and found Raimey's question is solved. FAB500 and Gettemans have done the job! Excellent work. Gene

[quote=ellenbr]For now, I didn't take the time to translate it but took the easy path of Google Translate:

>>He founded his workshop in 1902, 66 cours Fauriel. He filed a patent in 1912 under the n ° 439,323 for a "new quadruple lock for hunting rifles". Coeur-Tyrode, deposited the mark "Fermeture Aiglon"> surrounding CTL between two stars, surmounted by an eagle, April 4, 1912. This mark was renewed in the name of Aimé Cœur on May 13, 1927. In 1925, Coeur Tyrode was established. member of the Union Chamber of Arms Manufacturers of Saint-Etienne. Henri Guichard took over in 1934 until 1967. He was awarded a gold medal at the Paris Exhibition in 1937. In 1967, his apprentice then companion, Georges Granger, succeeded him until 1993. Georges Granger was successively Meilleur Ouvrier de France in 1968, Master-Craftsman in 1978 and winner of the Métiers d'Art in 1979. Richard Lévy, also apprentice then companion of Georges Granger succeeded him in turn in 1993. The workshop still exists at the same address .<<

I still wish to see a better pic of the rectangular / square crossbar in the standing breech & for now I do wonder how it was placed?

Serbus,

Raimey

merci beaucoup fab500 for all your efforts. I really do appreciate it. This is a totally new fermeture/lockup for me akin to the Greener / Purdey Nose / „Fermeture Liègeoise“ - >>Galand Nose<< and is most fascinating. Yes indeed you understood my question and there was another facet to it, which is a picture from the custodian of the longarm with the >>Fermeture Aiglon<< to see the top rib extension on the breech. And I will pair it to your explanation.

Just to give an idea of the quality of Granger guns using the aiglon system: I have a 1998 price list courtesy of JJ Perodeau, at that time with Champlin Arms in Enid, OK. (He's on his own now, but I believe still does some gunsmithing for Champlin.)

The Granger sidelocks are basically French "bests". The basic gun sold for $30,000 back then.
