saw this at an auction and was wondering what type of damascus it is. Haven't seen anything like this before or is it just bad photos? Kind of looks like a cross between damascus and twist.

Mike: it's a blurry image of a messy 3 Iron Oxford

Left to right the (mostly) straight ribband edge weld down the middle of a narrow scroll, 2 "zipper" welds down the middle of full sized scrolls, and the other ribband edge weld

This 4 Iron example might help.
No one called the alternee 'leaves' (the rods in this example had 24) and I got the 'scrolls' from Dr. Gaddy, but it does help in describing the pattern
The ribband edge welds are straight and the rod-rod 'zipper' welds (best seen in the middle scroll) are wavy

So besides the bad photos the actual making of the damascus barrels isn't well done? This is in an auction in the states. I'm not interested in it but for the damascus part. I think that it was an F Grade LeFever 12 ga. thanks Drew.

The aesthetics/attractiveness of a pattern welded tube is a different issue from the strength of that tube.
Attractive crolle patterns are symmetric and uniform; the scrolls are similar in shape and size and the contrast consistent.
That doesn't necessarily mean there is a defect that lowers the strength of that tube.
