I've been considering what to put on my old Husqvarna 98 Sporter in .200 Swift. I think it dates to around 1947. Have not decided exactly which make and model scope I'd like to have for it. It wore a Lyman 25X LWBR for years, but I'd like a little more appropriate scope for it, with less magnification, maybe around 10-12X. That may be the place to access what I need.

Thanks, buddy.

May God bless America and those who defend her.

Well, one landed in my lap. A yet unmet friend on this DGJ forum messaged me and offered a Weaver 61-B 10X scope of very nearly the same vintage as my Husqvarna Swift. I bought it and put it on recently. It is 99%+, clear as a crystal, and with the fine crosshairs I wanted. I think it looks very appropriate on the rifle, sits very low, and presents a clean, lean look. The bolt handle clears the ocular bell by no more than 1/16".

Look out, crows.

Thank you, my friend.

I have some First World War sniper scopes but one that could be called vintage maybe is a Bushnell Scopechief that I have. It has an illuminated center dot (not very effective) I don't know its age but someone may be able to enlighten me there. An old German 'Oigee' 4X scope that must be from the 1950's at a guess (that I hope to fit to a Rook Rifle one day) and I still use a couple of Pecar of Berlin scopes on two of my rifles. One of those old WW1 scopes by Aldis dated 1916 is as clear as crystal the other by the Prismatic Periscope Company has seen better days. The latter only saw use right at the end of the war. Some of those older scopes were certainly built to last! Lagopus.....

My WW1 British issue (Enfield acceptance marks) Winchester A5 still works remarkably well, at least when the light is good although in poor light it is handicapped by the small lenses.

One advantage is that by recording the readings (as per photo) it can be moved from one rifle to another.

In the photo it is on a .303 Mark III Ross 1910 . When I tried to find it recently it took me a while to remember that it was on a .22 SMLE fitted with a Parker-Hale Easifix mount.

Inside of case lid of a WW1 issue A5. Reference to use of open sights in zeroing shows it was originally paired up with a SMLE fitted with Whitehead side mounts.
