My shipment from England came in on Saturday. Suppose to be made by Giles Whitmore for Purdey. What they used it for I wouldn't know. It has to be shot off of a bench. This is one of the strangest firearms I've ever bought. First off it weighs a whopping 20 pounds. The paradox style rifling is a removable choke is the only thing I can think of to call it. No safety and no extractor. Butt is very nicely grained and has a skeleton pistolgrip cap.

Thanks! That was certainly an interesting write up on Giles.

Great quote from the article: "To the English a rifle without a silencer is like an automobile without a muffler."

I like that.

Based on the write up I would consider that it was for testing the rifling that would be at the end of the barrel. This one has a screw on rifled section that could easily be changed to test something different.

Likely for load development and testing of the 10 bore rifled choke gun(the only one they have built I believe) pictured here:

You'd think that they would have wanted it to have an extractor though. Time consuming to rod each round out of the barrel

Pressure gun, no extractor cut in barrel or rim.
Wonder if the rings on the barrel are for a strain gauge?
