Thanks. I plan to take the little Sauer out to the range tomorrow and try to superimpose a couple of 11MM holes with a couple of 16 gauge slugs at 50 or 75 yards. That's about my limit with the shallow open sights.

A member on the PGCA site gave me a handful of loaded shells. I shot two of them and have no ideal what's in them. Sorry. I guess I should pull a bullet to see what to reload them with. Do you have an 11.15X65? I think the two I fired were smokeless powder.

eightbore, I don't have one myself, but my cousin just bought a double barrel rifle in that caliber, and I am helping him get set up to load for it. I am donating 7x65R cases, but since it is a double, the weight of a factory bullet and factory velocity or factory powder charge( BP )to calculate a NFB charge is needed. If you don't mind sacrificing a round, it would be helpful to know the bullet weight and powder charge weight. It is hard to ID the powder type by eye, but if it is written anywhere, the type would be helpful. I asked for a PM to avoid highjacking the thread, but someone else couldn't get through. Thanks Mike

Pheasant, sharptails, ruffies, & blues, and all with hammerguns, what fun! Do you notice a difference in cocking the bar-actions versus the backactions?

Der Ami, my loads are all shot now. If I were to plan future use of that caliber, I would buy a quantity of 2 1/2" .410 brass shells. They are exactly the length of the 11.15X65 round and fit snuggly in the chamber.

Lloyd, Probably not as chic a gun as you are looking for, but Husqvarna made some very nice hammer guns. I have 2 M51 Huskies that are well made and easy to shoot. Both of mine have relatively high dimensions for older guns - 1 1/2 x 2 3/8. These are top lever back action guns. The second one I just got and the wood and metal are at least 95%. They are 12 gauge, 29.5” barrels and weigh 7 pounds. I just use them for target shooting, but I wouldn’t hesitate to use them on game farm birds. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I pulled the locks off of a Husky - everything was polished and wonderfully fit. There are several dandy Francotte pigeon guns at Steve Barnett Fine Guns that would be great for shooting pigeons of any kind.

JNW: I've seen a few Husqvarnas and thought they looked pretty good. I'm sure they'd make a fine job of whatever you'd use them for. But...I'm just another hopeless anglophile who really likes the stuff from "Old Blighty" I fear.
And, as usual, just when I'm feeling flush the tax man cometh and my few shekels for gun toys evaporate like a mist in sunlight. I must bide my time and keep plodding along, the right gun for me is still "out there".
