Do you shoot butterflies, too? What are your reasons for shooting dragonflies? I've never known them to be a nuisance in any way, nor June Bugs either.

Why shoot dove and ducks with a Super Fox, Stan? What are the reasons? Are you infested with them and are they a nuisance? I guess you eat them but you can go to a Winn Dixie and get all you need to eat and not have to deal with cleaning the birds and shot in the meat. ;-)

Buzz, he can obviously do as he pleases, and will. I'm just trying to understand his reasons. Dragonflies are harmless to people, and eat millions of mosquitoes and mosquito larvae, among other pests. He doesn't eat them himself, like I do the ducks, doves and quail I shoot. I shot them off power lines, as an 8 yr. old kid with a BB gun. But, I grew up. "I guess you eat them"? Well, of course. Can you think of a better reason, or do you not consume the gamebirds you take?

Wingshooting practice, he claims. Bullshit. Just a desire to kill, period. What's it to you, anyway, besides the obvious?

I don’t know Stan, was just trying to make a point. I sometimes put a white target out there, dribble sugar water on it, then with my Anschutz .22 sporter, I shoot flies from about 50’. You see fly guts on the paper. Is that bad of me to shoot flies with a very accurate .22? It’s pretty fun. I don’t see much difference in shooting flies vs dragon flies or June bugs. By the way, I shot a hummingbird once with a .32 cal muzzle loader. I always felt bad about that. Hope I don’t go to Hell for being bad.

A friend and I once got left in camp since we didn't have a dove shoot lined up for opening day. We took .410s and went to a weed field on the place. The field was loaded with "snake-doctors" for some reason. We setup our dove seats and shot up several boxes of .410 ammo. No cleaning, no bagging, no freezing, just shoot and watch'em explode. No good reason to have done it, just bored and hacked off we didn't have a dove shoot. Not something I'd condone, but I've done it...Geo

And grasshoppers too!

Boy there is nothing that provides finer sport than walking down through a grassy field kicking up grasshoppers at the end of the summer.

Just like going to the trap range.

I’m not sure how I’m supposed to feel about the Earth worms when I rototill my garden.

Undoubtedly I have euthanized tens of thousands of mosquitoes and unwanted flies spraying poison around my property. But I guess that’s different.

Out there doing it best I can.

Farmers understand the difference between beneficial insects and insect pests. Flies, deer (yellow, black) flies, horse flies, mosquitoes, fire ants, in fact stinging ants of all kinds, are all pests. I thought most adults with walking around sense understood this, and the difference between them and the beneficial insects that prey upon them. Dragonflies are a major predator of all of the above.

See any difference in killing a housecoat and killing the rats they prey upon? BTW, anybody who shoots a hummingbird ought to get three days in the electric chair. JMNSHO

Not condoning the wanton killing of beneficial insects is idiotic crap? Okay, dude.

Tough when you back yourself in a corner and have no sane way out, ain't it?
