Just purchased this thing any recommendations on pressure of load to use if it’s truly original thickness with no pits. I can get down to 6-7k with pb 3/4oz?

Boyd and Tyler had special shells and if you can find them for sale the bring $500 each.
I would sure check the gun over. I'm not saying it's not 16ga but it most likely is not, as the gun is a very early gun. I've seen B&Ts is 8 ga, 10 ga, and 12 ga.

You've seen this?
https://www.amazon.com/Harmon-TYLER-SPINDLE-ACTION-SHOTGUN-Report/dp/B09FT2953L

The seller's pics are very small but I think the pattern in 3 Iron Oxford. Post a better close up full size image of about 8" of barrel when you get the gun and I'll read the pattern. With that contrast the barrels may have been refinished.

If you'd share the chamber length, and end of chamber, 9" and minimal wall thickness and location thereof several here could provide an opinion regarding load pressures. IMHO a vintage double without pitting means honing.

The gun is marked D [Damascus] and Xll [12 ga.] It looks like a fine example. Odd design and one needs strong thumbs to work the extractors.

This statement by the Preacher is both absurd and unfounded.

The presence of pitting in the bores of a vintage double may indicate that it was never honed. On the other hand, barrels that have been honed could also continue to be neglected, and could subsequently develop new pitting. Guns that were used with corrosive primed shells could develop pitting very quickly if not properly maintained. And some barrel steels were less resistant to corrosion too.

However, there are plenty of vintage doubles that have nice shiny bores, in spite of never being honed or polished. That's because there are plenty of vintage doubles that were owned by guys who made a habit of cleaning and oiling their guns after use.

This sort of misleading information tends to get accepted and repeated, so it should be understood that you shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet.

Those postmasters must feed the guns well. I've had several grow up in the mail.

Or this, This gun is unique, uses proprietary ammo and probably wasn't used much and is not used up. Bores could be fine without too much thought to maintenance over the time allowed. Interesting gun nonetheless. Good luck shooting it!

That is a really interesting Rube Goldberg contraption. Would love to have it in hand and play with it awhile. Points of firing pins appear flat and original. Some early primer variation?

Oh I shot it! Special thanks to Mr. Hallquist and Parabola. It used one of the first brass cartridges Mr. Hallquist provided me a picture of one. ( he can share his pic if he wishes, since there doesn’t seem to be any others)Looks to have used a cap not primer in center ( hence flat firing pins). Chamber is pretty much a 14ga chamber, bores are .726 no pits only slight frosting ( it’s original). I shot some 6-7k psi 16ga rio reloads and it surprisingly patterned quite well at 23yds. It looks like RMC can make brass the will work fine but it would be much easier to open up chamber and rim recess for a modern 12. Some paper 12ga 800x 1 1/8 oz at 5500 psi would make it a blast to hunt with.
