Forty years ago today, terrorists from a group that would come to be known as Hezbollah truck bombed a US barracks in Beirut. 220 marines, 18 sailors, and 3 soldiers died. President Reagan wrote, “The goal we sought in that troubled place was worthy of their best and they gave their best. They were no part of our failure to achieve that goal. In the end, hatreds centuries old were too much for all of us, … Yes, our Marines are coming home - but only because they did all that could be done.”
As that same war rages still, each who gave their lives that day are not forgotten.
